4620 Camp St. - the Swamp

Many of you know the story about how this guy bought these houses and evicted two familys and a man who was dying of cancer so he could demolish two double shotguns in fair condition. He sold the sidewalk and left us with a swamp. It seems there is little the city can do to make him do the right thing.

On March 2nd at or about 3:45 pm, officers responded to an alarm at 3900 Tchoupitoulas Street. The suspect kicked in a locked door at the Public Storage office and removed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. The suspect was apprehended a couple of blocks away by responding officers. Arrested was Ricky Fayard (WM, 8/7/71). Investigators learned that Fayard is the husband of the office manager.  He was charged with burglary of the business.

On March 1^st  at or about 1:00 am, the victim parked his vehicle in the 4300 block of Coliseum Street. He exited the car and began to walk towards his residence. The victim was approached by a black male armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded the victim’s car keys, which were handed over to the suspect. The suspect then entered the victim’s vehicle and drove away.

 

Officers in the area observed the victim’s vehicle at Tchoupitoulas and Louisiana Avenue. When they attempted to stop the suspects, but to no avail. A car chase ensued and the suspect(s) were eventually apprehended in the 1800 block of St. Andrew Street. Officers arrested a Known 16 year old Juvenile, who was positively identified by the victim. Also arrested was one James Hills (BM, 6/15/90).  In addition to the arrest, officers recovered three handguns.

There has been some recent misinformation regarding the number of crimes / armed robberies in the Second District in recent weeks. It seems that much of this misinformation has been coming from a couple of local media outlets. This morning, a local media outlet reported that there were 50 carjacking incidents around Newman School. That information is completely and utterly FALSE.

 

As reported via this Email Blast last week, there was a carjacking at Newman School. There were no other incidents at Newman. Let’s set the record straight.

 

From Jan 1, 2008 to date (2 months), there have been three carjacking robberies and one armed robbery in the area from Broadway to Marengo; Tchoupitoulas to S. Broad (over a 1 mile radius which encompasses over ½ of the 2^nd District). The robberies were reported via the Email Blast and are as follows:

 

1. Carjacking at Jefferson and Daneel (Newman School)
2. Armed Robbery at 5500 S. Robertson. Randy Lewis and a 15 year old Juvenile were apprehended and arrested in this case.
3. Carjacking at 1700 Upperline. Greg Williams and Anthony Landry were apprehended and arrested in this case.
4. Carjacking at 4300 Coliseum. James Hill and two 16 year old Juveniles were apprehended and arrested in this case.

 

We will continue to report every single armed robbery / carjacking that occurs in this district. Please do not listen to rumors, innuendo or inaccurate media reports.

As per discussion at the recent NONPACC meeting, we will begin sending out email notices on when/where officers will be on walking beats in the 2^nd District.

 

On March 1st officers will be on walking beats in “Zone B”, between the hours of 7:00am – 7:00pm. We would encourage you to stop the officers and introduce yourself. Let them know about your neighborhood and any concerns you may have.

On February 26th at or about 3:30 pm, the victim was parked in the 5300 block of Daneel Street. While waiting in his vehicle, a white Ford Escape pulled in front of his vehicle – blocking him in. A black female exited the Ford Escape and ordered the victim and his daughter from the vehicle at gunpoint. The female entered the victim’s vehicle (2005 Acura MDX) and drove away.  Unknown subject(s) who remained in the Ford Escape also drove away. The victim notified a nearby off-duty police officer (who was directing traffic) of the incident. Responding officers were unable to apprehend the subjects, although the Ford Escape was located shortly after the robbery. Detectives are continuing to work the case. The suspect is described as 20-25 black female, 5’5”, 170 lbs., dreadlock hairstyle, wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, no further.

On February 19th at or about 10:40 pm, Second District Officers were patrolling the area of  3800 Constance Street in response to reported street corner narcotics activity. Officers arrested Andrew Moore (BM, 11/30/79) and Derek Payton (BM, 1/3/59), in the 3800 block of Constance Street. Moore was charged with possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Payton was charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Payton was additionally charged with possession of a firearm. (Pictures attached)
